John has been pastor of First Baptist, Midland, since August of 2000. He has pastored for 36 years, having served four churches prior to moving to Midland. He is a graduate of Eastern University in St. Davids, PA, and Colgate Rochester Divinity School. John is married to Paula, and they have two grown sons and a beautiful little granddaughter.

B.A., 1974 - Judson College
M.Div., 1979 - Northern Baptist Seminary
Served in several churches in the midwest as Associate pastor. Also served 4 years as an American Baptist missionary in India (1999-2003). Currently oversees the music ministry of First Baptist Church, and helps with other pastoral duties, including preaching occasionally. Family: wife, Susan; son, Benjamin (college student at Eastern University near Philadelphia); daughter, Meredith (freshman at Alma College). Hobbies: playing trumpet in local community band, working out at the community center, racquetball, reading, occasionally playing piano for restaurants/weddings/parties.

Graduate of Northwestern College, MN, with a B.S. in Ministry. Serving at the First Baptist Church Midland, MI, since June 2004. Served at the United Methodist Church Hudson, WI, September 1996 - September 2003. Married to Sue Williams. They have two children.

Most of Deb‚s career has been spent in the Office Professional arena. She has worked for Delta College University-Career Development & Placement, Midland Public SchoolsÛAttendance Office Professional and also for The Dow Chemical Company where she held such positions as a TAP, Purchasing Assistant, Administrative Assistant, and Senior Administrative Manager. She chose to leave The Dow Chemical Company in pursuit of her Graphic Arts Degree.
She is married to a Midland Firefighter and is the mother of two boys. Her hobbies include: fishing, snowmobiling, reading, painting, selling her hand crafted items at craft shows, browsing second hand stores, and vacationing in the U.P. where she and her husband own an 80-acre hunting camp.

 
Brendon Smith, Pianist/Organist

Brendon Smith was hired to be the organist of First Baptist Church in July 2006. This is Brendon‚s first experience playing the organ, but he previously played piano for church services at Tawas United Methodist Church (1992-1993) and at Adrian College (1994-1997).
Brendon graduated from Adrian College in April 1998 with a major in mathematics (with an emphasis in secondary education) and a minor in music. He moved to Midland in August 1998 to begin his teaching career in the Midland Public Schools. In 2005, he earned his Master‚s degree in secondary education from Saginaw Valley State University. Currently, he teaches Algebra I, Algebra II, and geometry at Midland High School.
Brendon and his wife, Kerry, were married in July 2001. They began attending First Baptist Church in 2003 and became members of the congregation the following year. Kerry enjoys playing the flute for church services and playing in the church bell choir.
