First Baptist Missions
First Baptist Church is concerned and involved in mission and ministry beyond our own building. It is our intention not only to financially support the missions of our congregation, but also to support the missions of our community and our denomination with our finances, efforts and involvement.
Local Ministry - oversees the church's support of ministries and missions here in our own community, including:
- Habitat for Humanity
- Crisis Pregnancy Center
- Emergency Food Pantry
- The Open Door
- Midland Area Homes
- SHARE
- Sharing Tree
- Church Women United
- Tri-County Youth for Christ - Campus Life
- Young Life of Midland
World Wide Ministry - directs our focus beyond ourselves and our community as we support:
- American Baptist Basic Mission
- America for Christ Offering
- AB Student Foundations at Michigan State
- One Great Hour of Sharing
- Wycliffe Bible Translators - Chaz & Helga Mortensen
- Michigan Baptist Camps - Lake Louise & Lael
- Friendship House - Hamtramck, MI
Special Offerings
World Mission Offering - a special offering received annually that provides financial support for our American Baptist missionaries overseas. The offering is given in the fall of each year. American Baptist missionaries are not required to raise their own financial support, so that they may spend their time doing the work that God has called them to do. Therefore, this offering is crucial in providing for their needs.
Deacon's Fund - on the first Sunday of every month, the church takes a "backdoor" offering to cover special and urgent needs in the community. This may include helping individuals to cover expenses for heat or electricity at a time when their finances cannot cover those expenses.
America For Christ Offering - taken in the Spring of each year and used to support the work of "Home Missions". These are mission efforts that are taking place throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. They are used to support ministries such as our camps and conference centers (like Camp Lael and Lake Louise), Community Christian Centers (like Friendship House in Hamtramck), Christian publications (like "The Secret Place"), and our American Baptist Colleges and Seminaries.
